　実は私もX windowの解像度がうまく設定できないのです。
　”[linux-users:39995] Gateway EV700 monitor”とその一連のレスポンスで同様の問題が扱われていたので興味深く見ていたのですが、結局水平周波数をモニターの性能に合った値に調整し直すというのが解決策になったようで、私の場合とはやや異なるようです。

　私の場合も1024x768以上の解像度を実現できないのが問題で、XF86Setupでモニターの周波数は規定値以内に納めて入力しています。

　XF86Setupで、モニターの周波数を直接H:30-64,V:50-160と入力して解像度で1024x768を選んでみたりしたのですが、こちらも同じで砂嵐が縦に流れていくような画面になります。


モニター：IBMのAptiva770に付属の15インチモニター
 （モニター全面に貼ってるシールにはこう書いてある）
