Wanted: volunteers to download Free Software to help build a CD
repository in India.
The idea: To make accessible a wide range of distros
and Free Software at low-cost prices to users and
techies in India.
The problem: Low-speed download lines in much of the
region.
The possible solution: Downloading single-copies of the
required CDs, and storing these at commercial outlets
which sell the same at very reasonable prices (usually
for around or below $1 each CD plus postage).
If you are willing to help download the Free Software required, we would
be most grateful. Because this is a non-funded, purely voluntary
venture, we are not able to offer any recompense for the
volunteers. Kindly note, I have no financial interest in the operation to
sell the CDs on a low-cost basis.
Please contact fred at bytesforall.org for more details on the distros
required. Alternatively, let us know what software/distros you think would
be suitable for such a kind of project. (We already have
commonly-available distros like RedHat, Mandrake, Debian, etc.)
Thank you!
Free Software -- a valuable gift you can easily afford to share!
