[cola:07500] Conference in London...key questions about GNU/Linux

Thanks to "Muhammad Asif" <masifkhatri _at_ hotmail.com> for posting this via the
PLUC, Pakistan Linux Users Community, mailing list pluc _at_ linux.com.pk:

There is a conference on 25th Feb here in London claiming to answer the
following key questions raised by IT managers all the time.

1. The vast majority of organisations I deal with use industry-standard
proprietary software. How can I maintain compatibility if I opt for open
source software, and how do I persuade my end-users to abandon their
familiar products?

2.Where are the applications? Won't I severely limit the range of
applications I can use if I opt for Linux and other open source platforms?

3.How can I base my organisation's IT strategy on the work of a bunch of
unpaid hackers?

4.What about security? How can I end up with a secure IT infrastructure if I
rely on open source code?

5.Who do I sue if things go wrong?

6.Where's the road map? How do I know where open source software is going,
and get reliable delivery dates?

7.Where do I get skilled staff? My staff don't want to throw away their
existing skill set.

8.Who is making money out of open source software, and what happens if our
supplier goes out of business?

9.How do I know that Linux will not go the same way as Unix, which ended up
with a plethora of different varieties?

10.Despite the promise of cost savings I'm worried about hidden costs? How
does the total cost of ownership of open source software compare with
traditional software, and where is the evidence for this?
