InterSystemsCACHÉ Outperforms Oracle in
KLAS Healthcare IT Survey
CAMBRIDGE, Mass.憂anuary 28, 2002/b>InterSystems Corporation today announced the results of an a survey comparing InterSystems and Oracle database technology conducted by the KLAS Enterprises research and consulting firm. Based on a survey of 110 healthcare IT executives, InterSystemssoftware rated higher than Oracle on every measure.
展e were pleased to participate in a survey that assesses database performance measurement in a quantifiable, controlled way, says Paul Grabscheid, InterSystems vice president of strategic planning. 典he information KLAS collected and analyzed validates what our application partners and end users already know葉hat InterSystemsCACHÉ database software successfully fulfills the most demanding requirements of the healthcare technology market.
Anatomy of Database Success
The KLAS study compared the performance of leading healthcare applications
using InterSystems or Oracle database systems. Areas of measurement included
response time, database reliability and speed, hardware and support personnel
requirements and downtime. Extensive interviews were conducted with healthcare
IT managers and executives who have an in-depth knowledge of the applications
and technical issues. Additional data was gathered through a KLAS evaluation
process that gathers input from healthcare CIOs and directors on more than
300 healthcare IT products.
InterSystemsdatabase products rated better than Oracle痴 in every satisfaction measurement, with the biggest CACHÉ advantage being in the area of reliability, according to the KLAS report. Further, InterSystemsdatabase products outperformed Oracle痴 by more than 2:1 in hardware required and 2.5:1 in the number of database administrators (DBAs) required.
Among survey findings:
- Users rated CACHÉ significantly higher in the areas of database software reliability and scalability with InterSystems software enjoying a 0.6 - 0.9 gap over Oracle (where a 0.5 difference is considered significant).
- The reliability gap was the biggest difference measured in the study. When asked about downtime, 60% of CACHÉ users reported that they had no unscheduled downtime洋ore than triple the rate (18%) of Oracle users.
- Respondents reported significantly higher scores for CACHÉ in terms of speed and scalability with InterSystemsdatabase software rated 0.7 over Oracle (where a 0.5 difference is considered significant).
- Although CACHÉ delivered better performance with a significantly more demanding workload, cost of operations was more economical with InterSystems database products users reporting a 2.1:1 advantage in hardware required and a 2.5:1 advantage in DBAs required.
Database for Top-Rated Healthcare Applications
KLAS summarized the results by stating 鍍he true measure of a solution
is its performance in live operation. The data is in and the measurement
has been taken. When we cut through all the hype about technology, state-of-the-art
solutions, object oriented systems, relational databases and client/server,
we can see that InterSystems databases continues to serve the healthcare
community as a core component in the best rated systems in the market.
KLAS is the only U.S. research and consulting firm specializing in monitoring and reporting the performance of healthcare IT vendors. The research firm's annual 2001 Top 20 Report validates the prominent, successful use of InterSystems software among healthcare application providers.
