Do you have an HP Deskjet 820C or 1000 model printer and are disappointed
that you can't print from Linux?
Well, dispair no more! I've created a piece of software that will allow
you to print postscript files (and other formats) to these printers. It's
currently in alpha testing phase, though it is perfectly usable to print
black-and-white graphics at 600 dpi. I use it as a filter for lpd so the
conversion is completely transparent.
These printers use a protocol known as PPA. HP will not release the
specifications for this protocol, so I have been working on deriving the
specification based on output from the Windows 95 driver and several
other sources.
I'm looking for people who would be willing to help test this software and
also help in the development and research. If you have one of these
printers and are interested, download my software and send me email!
