Version 1.4 of the YP (NIS version 2) tools for Linux is released.
This package contains ypcat, ypmatch, ypset, ypwhich and yppasswd.
You need this package for GNU C Library 2.x and Linux libc 5.4.21,
but you should use libc 5.4.36 or later due some NIS bugs in libc.
It replaces the old yp-clients 2.2 on this systems.
This version contains locale support. German locales are included.

Announcing XRPM 2.1
"Xrpm" is a tool born out of frustration with the RedHat and Caldera rpm
management tools. The first version was written in Tcl/Tk, a great
scripting language but I don't like it for any larger applications. This
version is written in Python a much better language in my opinion.

DESCRIPTION:
Xcmd is a front-end for starting programs under X11. You can tell xcmd
to look for a window with a specific class, resource name, or title
string (using the `--find-<property>' options); if it finds one or
more, xcmd will `raise' them, otherwise it will run the command you
specify. You can tell xcmd to run commands that create their own
windows (using `--xcmd'), or to run commands inside a terminal window
(using `--cmd') with various options.
EXAMPLES:
Here are some examples of how to use xcmd:
xcmd --cmd vi
Run vi in a terminal window.
xcmd --cmd 'vi ~/.Xdefaults'
Run vi in a terminal window and edit ~/.Xdefaults.
xcmd --find-resource 'Navigator' --xcmd netscape
Look for a Netscape window, or start one if none found.
xcmd --find-title 'Network Configurator' --xcmd 'sudo netcfg'
Look for a window titled Network Configurator; if none found,
use sudo to start netcfg.
xcmd --find-title Mail --cmd pine --title Mail --name xMail +scroll
Look for a window titled Mail; if none found, start pine in a
terminal window titled Mail, with a resource name of xMail and
no scrollbar. If the X resource `*xMail*vt100.geometry: 80x40'
is set, for instance, the resulting window will be 80 columns
wide by 40 lines high.
NOTES:
Xcmd requires X11R6 and a functioning Imake to build properly. You
might be able to build it on X11R5 by hacking the Imakefile a bit; if
you manage to, please send me patches and tell me what you did, and
i'll try to integrate them into the source. Also, i have only tested
xcmd on Linux-2.0.x on an i586 machine. Your mileage may vary.

The SEUL Project is an organization dedicated to developing a free
Linux distribution that presents a viable alternative to commercial
PC operating systems. Currently based on RedHat Linux, the SEUL
distribution will cover many different aspects of Linux, including:
* User-friendly and consistent interface to file management and
package installation/management.
* Similar interface for administration issues, such as system log
management, mail configuration, and inetd services.
* An intuitive, familiar, and consistent help format (hypertext) with
powerful search engine, extensive documentation, and tutorials for
common (and uncommon) procedures.
* Automatic hardware recognition/support and easy configuration,
particularly for X-windows and the kernel.
* 'Productivity Applications' -- word processor, spreadsheet, attractive
and powerful database frontend. Must be able to support binary file
formats of commercial applications (particularly Word). Internet suite.
Compilers/Interpreters (C, C++, perl, Fortran, Java, etc)
* Extensive network support, especially autoconfigure and autoconnect for
PPP links (by far the most common type of Internet connection currently).
* Publicity and Advocacy: writing clear and convincing documents
describing why Linux is actually a viable choice for non-programmer
home and office computer users.
We don't intend to write everything ourselves. If we can create a good
distribution simply by collecting and collating applications from other
groups (possibly with some reconfiguration to present a consistent
interface), everybody wins. All software written specifically for SEUL will
be made available under the GNU Public License, and all other applications
that we include will be available under the GPL or similar (free) licenses.
SEUL is a relatively new project. We have a membership list of about a
hundred, and our progress on the above tasks includes developer services, a
demo of the help browser, a draft of a document detailing why Linux is better
than other operating systems, an alpha of a system log monitor/filter, and
some other useful tools.
We need many more volunteers, both for coordinating and for creating.

The next meeting of the Toronto Linux Users Group will be held at 7:30 pm at
the Main Auditorium (L72) of the Library Building, Ryerson Polytechnical

Our featured guest for the meeting will be Bob Young, president of RedHat
software, whose name is well known as one of the leading developers of Linux
distributions. If you have ever wondered what RedHat is up to these days,
and how do they prosper by giving away software for free, this meeting will
give you the definitive answer. We would like to use this meeting also to
announce our LinuxNorth International conference, which is slated to
coincide with the summer Comdex this July here in Toronto.
Bob's talk is entitled:
"Red Hat Software, Inc. and Cooperatively Developed Software" and he
will cover the following topics:
- The role of commercial companies like Red Hat to
cooperatively developed software and the GPL (GNU Public Licence).
- How Red Hat considers the GPL to be the "best design
decision we have ever made".
- How RedHat is able to compete successfully with the world's
largest and most profitable software companies.
