Mark's MUd CLient, Mmucl (pronounced muckle) v1.0b6
A mud client written in tcl/Tk

Copyright (C) 1997-1998 Mark Patton
email: msp12 _at_ jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu
homepage: http://idt.net/~tmtr01/mmucl/
- --------------------------------------------------

Mmucl is a mud client written in the scripting language tcl/Tk.
Mmucl requires tcl/Tk version 8.0 or better. (Do not use 8.0p1.
It broke Mmucl. 8.0p2 fixed the problem) The latest tcl/Tk releases
can be found at ftp://ftp.sunlabs.com/pub/tcl.

Mmucl can be found at http://idt.net/~tmtr01/mmucl
and http://www.neosoft.com/tcl/contributed-software/.

Version 1.0b6 includes many bug fixes, documentation updates,
and additions such as a sub command based on the tintin++ subst.

INFORMATION ABOUT MMUCL
- -----------------------

Mmucl comes with two different graphical interfaces, xmmucl and
winmmucl, and one console interface, cmmucl. Xmmucl is a floating tool
bar that uses a xterm to display mud output. Winmmucl provides its
own window to display output in.

My intention in coding Mmucl was to combine the functionality
of unix mud clients with a nice graphical user interface. Mmucl is
extendable through tcl scripts. The sample mmucl.rc provides a number
of examples.

FEATURES
- --------
        -Regexp actions (triggers).
        -Sophisticated alias language (tcl).
-Routines for keeping track of characters and their init files.
        -Ansi color support (winmmucl)
-History (hit up or down to scroll through past commands).
-Portable, runs under any OS that runs tcl/Tk.
-Extendable, easily customized. Extensive examples provided.
        -Html based help system.
-Graphical interfaces to the command line procedures.
-Edit aliases, actions, key bindings, etc. graphically.
-Dialog boxes for connection to muds, loading files, etc.

LICENSE
- -------
Mmucl is distributed under the Gnu Public License. Read the file
LICENSE that comes with the Mmucl distribution for more information.

FEEDBACK
- ---------
If you have comments, suggestions, bug reports etc. email me at
msp12 _at_ jhunix.hcf.jhu.edu.

Samba Team Announces Samba 1.9.18
=================================

Canberra, Australia, January 1998 - The Samba Team is pleased to
announce version 1.9.18 of Samba, the leading file and print server
suite for corporate network integration with Microsoft Windows (tm)
clients.

Speed and Internationalization Improvements.
- --------------------------------------------

With this release, Samba becomes one of the fastest available SMB/CIFS
file servers, out-performing many commercial alternatives. Samba now
implements the opportunistic locking features of the SMB/CIFS protocol.
This can improve file access performance by an order of magnitude over
previous versions. Samba has been internally benchmarked as faster than
commercially available SMB servers on the same hardware platforms.

Samba now provides for dynamic code page support, allowing easy roll-out
of servers within an international organization. Samba now allows network
administrators to configure the way clients view internationalized filenames
on a server-by-server basis.

Servers with multiple network interfaces are now fully supported by Samba
in the same way as Microsoft Windows NT (tm) servers, allowing network
administrators to easily load-balance client accesses over all available
bandwidth.

Samba also provides automatic downloading of printer drivers for Microsoft
Windows 95 (tm) clients, allowing it to completely replace Microsoft Windows
NT servers for both file and printer services.

Samba has no client license fees, and may be used without cost on any
compatible server operating system (most versions of UNIX).

Samba is the clear choice for robust, scalable, file and print services
for Microsoft Windows clients and is used by thousands of corporations
worldwide, as a mission-critical part of their networking
infrastructure.

About the Samba File and Print Server program.
- ----------------------------------------------

Designed to service any Server Message Block (SMB) file sharing client,
Samba is compatible with all Microsoft Networking clients including
Windows 95 (tm), Windows NT (tm) Workstation and Server, Windows for
Workgroups (tm), IBM OS/2 (tm), smbfs for Linux and Thursby Software
Systems DAVE (tm) Macintosh SMB client.

Samba also functions as a logon server for Windows 95 and supports roving
profiles. Samba can provide support for over 2,000 clients simultaneously
per samba server and many Samba servers of this scale can work together.

Samba is distinguished by its scalability, speed and flexibility. It is
freely distributed with source code, and has high-quality support.
Over a hundred specialist support companies worldwide offer commercial
support for Samba, which is also supported by copious Internet
resources and a mailing list with ten thousand subscribers.

Samba is developed by a team of international developers, in the same
manner as the Linux operating system, and is shipped as standard with
most versions of Linux.

With many hundreds of thousands of installed systems around the world,
Samba is making it possible for many kinds of systems to share files
that have been incompatible until now.

Samba implements the Common Internet Filesystem protocol, the Internet
Engineering Task Force draft protocol for extending SMB to the Internet.
Samba keeps pace with CIFS developments. See

http://samba.anu.edu.au/cifs.

Samba runs on UNIX (tm) and near clones from over 30 vendors, besides
IBM MVS (tm), Digital Equipment VMS (tm), Stratos VOS (tm), all versions
of IBM OS/2 Warp (tm), Novell Netware (tm), Amiga OS (tm) and others.
Most corporate data servers are supported, besides countless small
networks running less powerful operating systems.

Windows NT, Windows 95, Linux, OS/2 Warp, Windows for Workgroups come
with SMB network file systems by default. Windows 3.1, DOS, AIX and others
have equivalent add-ons. Different SMB clients have different extensions and
different bugs. Samba goes to great lengths to accommodate all clients that
are in use.

Webmin is a web-based user interface that simplifies Unix system
administration. All you need is Perl version 5.003 and a web browser
that supports forms and tables (such as Netscape or IE). Webmin
includes its own dedicated web server, so no existing web server is
needed.

Webmin is currently beta software, and works by directly modifying
files such as /etc/passwd, /etc/fstab and smb.conf. As such, you should
think twice before using it on a vital production system, and be aware
that comments in the files modified are not allways preserved.

INSTRUCTIONS

utok, Unique TOKens, takes a list of arguments with delimiters and
remove all duplicate entries. Here is a example using MANPATH:

  > echo $MANPATH
  /usr/man:/usr/local/man
  > MANPATH=`utok $HOME/local/man /usr/local/man $MANPATH /usr/openwin/man`
  > export MANPATH
  > echo $MANPATH
  /home/sven/local/man:/usr/local/man:/usr/man:/usr/openwin/man

Even though /usr/local/man was included a second time it is only in
the MANPATH once, though it is now before the /usr/man entry instead
of after it.

I mainly use it for .profile, or .login scripts that get used on many
computers. This way I can just blindly set $MANPATH and not worry
about loosing obscure places the vendor, or the system administrator,
put on the path.

It has one useful option, "-s", that can change the delimiter to
something other then ":". I put this option in because the man
sometimes makes me use csh, so I set the path in my .login file with:

  set path = ('utok -s " " ${HOME}/local/bin /usr/local/bin $path')

The delimiter can be more then one character as I use strtok() to
split it up.

M4 SCRIPTS

I included some GNU m4 scripts i've written that one can use to create
similar simple Bourne and Csh by only maintaining a *.m4 file. This
code should be considered beta. The line:

  tokAft(<PATH>, </opt/emacs/bin>)

will produce the Bourne shell code:

  PATH=`utok $PATH /opt/emacs/bin`

and the Csh code:

  set path = (`utok -s \ $path /opt/emacs/bin`)

A list of commands include:

  tokSet(<env>, <value_1>, <value_2>, ... <value_n>)
Sets env to the list, value_m.

  tokAft(<env>, <value>)
put the token value to the end of all the tokens in env.

  tokPre(<env>, <value>)
puts the token value in the front of env.

  tokOne(<env>, <value>)
    set env to value

  rehash
exports PATH in sh, and does a rehash in csh.

INSTALL

You can get it at:

  http://www.catch22.com/~sven/software/utok.tar.gz

Or I can mail it to you uuencoded.

I've built it on Linux 2.0, Solaris 5.5.x (CC=gcc), IRIS 6.2 and,
HP-UX 9.x (CC="cc -Aa") systems, but there is nothing to complicated
that an #ifdef can't fix. Feel free to send me patches.

And after you gunzip'd it and untared it, cd into the utok-1.1
directory and type:

  make

and copy it someplace.

For the GNU m4 stuff, copy Makefile and *.mc files to the directory
you want to maintain your *.c?sh files (on RedHat 5.0 I use this for
some of my stuff in the /etc/profile.d directory). Create your own
*.m4 files, edit the Makefile and type make.

WHAT I'VE LEARNED

Version NULL used realloc(), which doesn't work correctly on all
systems. I've recoded utok in a way that doesn't use realloc().
Computers suck.

BUGS

 * I never check my calloc() calls.
 * Backslashing a delimiter doesn't do a thing.
 * Null tokens cause core dumps (i.e. typing "utok :").
 * The m4 stuff needs better documentation.

REQUESTED FEATURES

 * Include a way to remove tokens from the path.
 * Have a way to to push an element further back in the path.

ME

Sven Heinick <sven _at_ zen.org>

[this is to announce a tool which lets you browse and analyse the cost
structur of german domestic long distance carriers. Since they don't
offer services outside of Germany, this tool will be of no use to
anybody but people living here. Thus, this announcement is not in english]

Hallo zusammen,

hilfreich findet...

Cheap-Call-Features:

o Cross-Platform Support (Win32, Mac, Unix)
o offline Tarifdatenbank (fuer alle ohne Standleitung zum Internet)
o online Tarifdatenbank (fuer aktuelle Tarife)

kostenlos).

Weitere Informationen und Updates findet Ihr unter:

Ciao
  Thilo

dmsdos 0.9.0 has just been released. It supports read and write access to
compressed dos filesystems such as

      * Dos 6.0-6.2 Doublespace (version 1)
      * Dos 6.22 Drivespace (version 2)
      * Win95 Doublespace (seems to be the same as the Dos 6.0 version)
      * Win95 Plus! Drivespace 3
      * Stacker version 3
      * Stacker version 4

I've also been reported that the code works with some version of Superstore,
but this has not been thouroughly tested. I'm interested in further reports
about this.

You can access compressed partitions in these high-level filesystems:

      * msdos
      * vfat (yes, also fat32)
      * umsdos (currently only in kernel 2.0.33)
      * uvfat (if you have the UVFAT patches)

News:
      * kernel 2.0.33 is supported and tested
         - works now with Gordon's FAT32 patches
         - works now with UVFAT patches
      * kernel 2.1.76 and 2.1.78 are supported and tested
      * dmsdos is no longer a filesystem itself, it has been moved one
        layer down in filesystem level
      * the feature "booting from compressed umsdos partition" has been
        removed
      * CVF maintainance tools have been removed because of problems

Bugs:
      * new code is currently alpha test because porting may have
        introduced new bugs
      * new code is configured read-only by default (but it can do
write access if you change the default configuration)
      * there seem to be some problems with SQ decompression (SQ means
        Drivespace 3 'ultra' compression)
      * doesn't work with umsdos in 2.1.76 and 2.1.78 kernels - the code
doesn't compile, but it also doesn't compile without dmsdos :-(

Location:
      * ftp://fb9nt.uni-duisburg.de/pub/linux/dmsdos/
Please read the README in that directory for latest news.
      * http: (under construction, not yet ready)
      * sunsite and mirrors: when the code has passed alpha test phase

Email:
Please replace the host "etecs4" by "sent13" in the address above.
The other address is a mail robot trap. Repeatedly sending to etecs4
just adds the sender to a killfile :-)
